The premier landscaping and hardscaping team

For Dan Sowisdral and Mike Gramlich, you might say that landscaping is in their blood. Friends since childhood, the pair started mowing lawns in high school to earn extra money. They made it official in 2016 by launching a full-service landscaping venture serving Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey homeowners and businesses.

Today, with the invaluable expertise of longtime design specialist Steve Stolzer, we are Curb Appeal – the area’s foremost authority on state-of-the-art landscaping, hardscaping and snow removal.

Dedicated, knowledgeable and professional, our dream team provides impeccable care to every property, whether we’re installing a fabulous patio or clearing a parking lot so children can safely enter school.

Every aspect of every project is carefully managed by true owner operators – and every customer feels important. Projects are handled according to a clear timeline with precise estimates and ongoing feedback throughout each step. And if you call us, we’ll call you back…guaranteed.

So let it snow. Or grow. Finally add that patio. Or those peonies. Whatever you need, we got you.

You may have wondered…

How do I find the right landscaper?

Word of mouth is always best. Ask your friends, neighbors and co-workers who they like and why. Price is always a factor – but so is reliability and responsiveness. Post on your local Facebook community page and hear what people are saying. And be sure to review company websites and reviews. Make a list of 3-4 good possibilities and set up a consultation. This is a great way to see how they communicate and how they present their services and creativity. Be sure to find out if they’re licensed and insured and if they offer any guarantees.

What’s the best time of year for landscape installation?

Successful landscaping involves cycles throughout the year. In spring, it’s all about prepping and planting flower beds and starting hardscaping projects. During summer, the majority of large landscaping and hardscaping projects are undertaken. Autumn’s cooler temps are ideal for planting trees and bushes, with hardscaping projects still viable until the ground freezes. Best bet is to schedule hardscaping during the winter!

What’s the difference between landscaping and hardscaping?

Landscaping is designing, planning and building gardens and other features to make the most of your outdoor space and beautify your property. Hardscaping uses non-organic materials, like genuine stone, manufactured pavers and wood, to create stylish and practical patios, walls, walkways, firepits and more.

Why should I have my lawn aerated?

Aeration is great for any lawn, but especially if yours gets foot traffic, is part of new construction with compact soil or is part of thatch management and prevention program. Aeration should take place during high growth periods – when there’s lots of rain, mainly the spring and fall.

What’s the difference between annuals and perennials?

Annuals grow for one season and die when the weather gets cold. Perennials return for multiple seasons, regrowing every spring after being dormant during the winter. The most stunning landscapes blend annuals and perennials for a brilliant display of color throughout the warmer seasons.

What’s the benefit of adding mulch to flower beds?

With its rich hues, mulch adds instant beauty to your property and offers a finishing touch to your installations. But beyond good looks, mulch is a workhorse – improving the soil, protecting against temperature changes, repelling insects, conserving moisture and helping prevent weeds.

How does landscaping help the planet?

From trees to bushes to blossoms, every living plant has an important job here on earth filtering carbon dioxide out of the environment. In fact, every year just one tree removes 26 pounds of carbon dioxide. That’s 11,000 miles of vehicle emissions. Plants also prevent debris and pollution from entering our water supply. And if you plant trees that cast shade on your house, it stays naturally cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
